How to get there
From central Lisbon, head north to join the A1 northbound motorway, which passes the airport, and turn off at exit 3. Lisbon Portela Airport is clearly signposted.
From the north, head south along the A1 Oporto-Lisbon motorway and then take the signposted exit for the airport. From the south, cross the Vasco da Gama Bridge on the A12 and head south on the A1 or take the A2 northbound, merge onto the IP7 and turn onto the A1 northbound, which leads to the airport. From Cascais/Estoril, take the A5 motorway, then IP7 and A1 northbound.
There is a regular bus link to the nearby Estaçao do Oriente, from where express trains run south to Alentejo and the Algarve, and north to Porto and other destinations.
The new Aeroporto Station is located at Terminal 1. This station is on the red line of the Lisbon Metro (tel: 21 798 0600; www.metrolisboa.pt) network, with interchanges at Alamada or Saldhana for city centre destinations. A single ticket costs €1.25 and the journey into the city centre takes around 30 minutes.
Regular Carris buses (tel: (021) 361 3000; www.carris.pt) operate to the city centre (journey time: 20 minutes; fare: €1.80) and to the Cais do Sodré railway station from outside Terminal 1.
There is also the Aerobus (tel: (021) 361 3193; www.yellowbustours.com) which links the airport with Lisbon’s main business district (Line 2) and the Cais do Sodré railway station (Line 1), where passengers can catch trains to the west coast or ferries across the Tejo (River Tagus). The Aerobus fare is €3.50
Metered taxis are available 24 hours a day; the taxi rank is situated outside Arrivals and Departures at Terminal 1. The journey time to central Lisbon is around 10-15 minutes, and the fare starts at around €15.
Short-term car parks P1 and P2 have direct access to Terminal 1. P1 is located near the departures area and P2 is next to the arrivals area. P3 is a long-term outdoor car park and is a little further away from Terminal 1. These car parks are linked to both terminals via a free shuttle bus.
